Save The Cremorne: Consequences

Save The Cremorne: Consequences:

At various points during our campaign we have found ourselves explaining to our residents and neighbours the consequences of any redevelopment, or regeneration, of the Cremorne Estate.
To eliminate all doubt lets be clear: the consequences of any redevelopment are determined by Council policy. At the time of writing the Council's policy is perfectly straightforward.

If the redevelopment of Cremorne Estate takes place, displaced Council tenants are unlikely to be rehoused in the area. The new Allocation Policy means tenants get one offer of "suitable" housing, and if they don’t want it the Council has the right to "discharge their Duty to House".

Council leaseholders will be "bought out" (potentially compulsory purchased) and have neither the right, nor in many cases the means, to be rehoused in the local area.

Is this not the destruction of the local community in all but name?

This is what we faced and why we fought and continue to fight. Our community is precious and we will not allow it to be harmed or destroyed in this manner.

Poor doors: the segregation of London's inner-city flat dwellers

Poor doors: the segregation of London's inner-city flat dwellers

Poorer residents in capital's developments forced to use different entrances and facilities A Guardian investigation has discovered a growing trend in the capital's upmarket apartment blocks – which are required to include affordable homes in order to win planning permission – for the poorer residents to be forced to use alternative access, a phenomenon being dubbed "poor doors". Even bicycle storage spaces, rubbish disposal facilities and postal deliveries are being separated... MORE From this Guardian Article

CATS FACTS FRIDAY Are all the people who live in Chelsea well off?

CATS FACTS FRIDAY taken from London Poverty Profile

RBKC is London in microcosm. It has the second highest average income in London, of £36,000. However, this prosperity is not shared equally, and the borough also contains above average levels of deprivation. This deprivation is almost exclusively concentrated in the north of the borough, with the five northerly boroughs of Norland, Colville, St. Charles Notting Barns and Golbourne each including at least one 'Lower Super Output Area' in the 20% most deprived in the country. Golbourne is the 8th most deprived ward in London, out of 627. Earl’s Court, Redcliffe and Cremome also include areas of disadvantage.

Kensington and Chelsea is the only London borough to register negative population growth since 2001!

An interesting article from The Colliers Residential website shows that there has been a decrease in the population of Kensington and Chelsea since 2001. The article is based on the 2001, 2007 and 2011 census results.

"The latest census data shows that the overall population in London has increased by nearly 14% since 2001. All but one of the 34 London boroughs has increased in population. The greatest increases (around 26% and 29%) were in Newham and Tower Hamlets. Interestingly, Kensington and Chelsea is the only London borough to register negative population growth since 2001.
Kensington and Chelsea has seen a 17% drop in population. The 2001 census data for Kensington and Chelsea shows that the percentage of UK born residents was much higher than the percentage of foreign born residents. In 2001, foreign born residents represented 44% of the total population of Kensington and Chelsea. By 2011, the percentage of foreign born residents increased to 52%."

SAVE EARLS COURT EXHIBITION CENTRE

London’s biggest development project, Earls Court, could be under threat after local elections brought opponents of the scheme to power.

Labour has now taken over the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham (LBHF). The party had voiced objections to the scheme in the run-up to the election, which would see the demolition of Earls Court exhibition centre. More
