Welcome to the Chelsea Association of Tenants website.

Welcome to the Chelsea Association of Tenants website. Please feel free to browse the site to learn more of what type of work the association does for its community, surrounding businesses and services.

We at The Chelsea Association of Tenants (CATS) have decided to build a website as a major communication platform for all our residents.
We organized a 100 year Anniversary Celebration on our estate this year, with drinks , food, entertainment, local celebrities, politicians, local businesses and the Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea.

As part of our day , we had a photographic exhibition, detailing the estate over the last 100 Years. Whilst the adults and older members took an interest, the greatest reaction was from the younger members of the Estate. We would like to make a historical and pictoral record of our estate on this website. We will be encouraging and helping older members of our community to post their memories and recollections.

We hope this would give them a sense of self worth and help to gain the respect of the younger members of our community, and these stories may inspire the younger members. This website will help us connect with other housing associations and community groups in the area.

We intend to have a complaints section on this website. This will enable the committee, and also let the wider diaspora of residents know of the issues that are taking place on the estate, and also give us a valuable record of whats taking place on our estate, and help us gauge and evaluate how best to help our community.

We intend to have a mums forum, where mother can discuss the problems and issues affecting them. We intend to have a kids section and also an Under 16 Section. The community will be invited as part of an ongoing organic growth mechanism, to contribute,so as the site grows , so does the Community.

We would encourage local businesses to advertise with us, thus providing an additional funding source for our Committee. The money would be used to support and grow our Community, and contribute toward the cost of the website. We will have our own online shop, a small percentage of the spend , will be accredited to us by Amazon.

This website will allow our community access to discussions on, parking, cleaning, repairs, promoting community spirit, tolerance and co-operation,promoting residents rights, protecting our environment and estate, inform all residents ad represent the majority view of our community.

In effect this website will be " SUPPORT FOR COMMUNITY LIFE "

  1. Thank you Ian Henderson, and everyone at CATS, for your support and encouragement of Lilia Pegado and I as we've launched the Chelsea Arts Collective (CAC).

Supported by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea's City Living, Local Life fund, first came six weekly visual art classes conducted by Lilia from March 13 at the Saatchi Gallery (to be continued) and then a trilogy of informal, hugely diverse and free performances in the beautifully unpretentious, utterly flexible St Luke's Hall on March 22, 29 and April 12. There CAC was able to present - to an ever-expanding audience of local residents and people from around and outside London - short works by 21 companies or individual artists (nearly 50 of them) whose ages ranged from early twenties to 88. These 'acts' embraced a variety of genres and styles from ballet, butoh and contemporary dance to spoken word and operatic theatre, tango, classical Indian dance and 'disability arts' and, as a bonus, live music (classical, folk-rock and Latin).

We've learnt so much doing this, and trust that the both the fun we've had and the discoveries we've made on so many levels have been shared - at least to some degree - by a public that's grown numerically from approximately 60 in attendance on the first night to 125 this past Saturday.

Presently CAC plans to invite people to St Luke's Hall on May 30 and 31 for a daytime exhibition of art work by people from Chelsea and elsewhere and, in the evenings, a selection of performances which, ideally, will also include live music and dancing. Stay tuned for further details.

But once again warm thanks to CATS. We couldn't have come this far without you.

Sincerely, Donald Hutera (journalist and curator)

  2. Hooray for Chelsea Arts Collective (CAC) presented by CATS. I made it to the 12th April showing for a bubbly, eclectic show. What would the dance world do without church halls? St Luke’s Hall is a lovely space, light and lofty with elegant windows and a nice wooden floor, perfect setting for such an intimate informal evening, with a packed and good natured audience under the guidance of Donald Hutera periodically shifting the chairs to get different perspectives on the performers. The fabulous diversity of the dancing included made for an engaging and surprising programme, challenging expectations with freshness and immediacy. Corali fluidly integrated moving between stage and auditorium space giving added dimensions with use of torches and projection. Sage’s white haired ensemble danced with clarity and commitment. Muted conversational dance and speech in the reflective “The Panel” contrasted with colourful anarchic energy in “Laura Laura” by immigrants and animals, and wide eyed intensity from Florencia Guerberof. Tangos from Jane Solomon and Richard Putko accompanied by stylish singer/guitarist Corina Piatti provided the perfect finish. More please!
