RSPB

After their numbers dropped by 85 per cent since 1995, turtle doves could disappear altogether from our countryside. Find out how people are fighting to save them, and how you can join in. We also have news of the devastation caused by the recent east coast storm, ideas for festive days out, a competition to enter and lots more.

Merry Christmas, and thank you for all your support this year.
Are turtle doves on their way to extinction in the UK?
Xxxxxxxx
With beautiful plumage and a gentle purring call, turtle doves have long been a symbol of enduring love, from Chaucer to Shakespeare.

But for how much longer will there be turtle doves in our countryside? Numbers have crashed by 85 per cent since 1995, and sightings were at an all-time low this summer.

A wide range of dedicated people are rallying to the doves' aid, doing everything from changing the way they manage their farms to taking a 300-mile sponsored walk, creating artwork and making delicious chocolates!
